To celebrate the release of The Dissolute Society’s debut album Soldiering On, out on Babel Label, 11th May 2018, the ensemble presents solo and trio improvisations, shining a light on the smaller formations that can be heard on that album.
First up is a rare chance to hear ECM recording artist Huw Warren play a solo set, celebrating the recent release of his new solo album Nocturnes and Visions.
In the second half of the evening, Huw will play in a trio with Raph Clarkson and Zosia Jagodzinska; this formation is featured on the Dissolute Society’s Soldiering On, playing a free improvisation on a traditional Hungarian folk song. The rest of their set will comprise improvisations and meditations on other folksongs from around Europe, including the Russian folk song melodies used in Benjamin Britten’s suite for solo cello.
